These components support various DDR5 server memory modules, including MRDIMM/MCRDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM, UDIMM, and SODIMM, enabling high-performance and high-capacity memory solutions for next-generation servers.

Among them, MRCD and MDB chips serve as the core logic devices of high-bandwidth server memory modules—MRDIMM/MCRDIMM. This chipset leverages double data rate signaling and time-division multiplexing to enable simultaneous access to two memory ranks at standard speeds, effectively doubling memory bandwidth. First-generation MRCD and MDB products support data rates of up to 8800 MT/s, meeting the stringent bandwidth requirements of data-intensive workloads.

With the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analytics, computational demand is growing exponentially. As processor core counts continue to increase, the need for higher memory bandwidth rises sharply. However, traditional memory architectures struggle to scale bandwidth in pace with core growth, resulting in insufficient memory bandwidth per core and limiting overall processor performance.

To address this challenge, a new memory technology—MRDIMM (Multiplexed Rank DIMM)—has emerged. Through an innovative architecture, MRDIMM significantly increases memory bandwidth and reduces access latency, substantially improving overall system performance.

MRDIMM buffers and multiplexes data streams from multiple DRAM ranks via MDB, and outputs them to the CPU in a time-division multiplexing manner under the coordination of MRCD, thereby achieving a significant bandwidth increase without raising the data rate of individual DRAM chips. The second-generation MRDIMM supports a rate of 12800 MT/s, offering a theoretical bandwidth that is twice that of a DDR5-6400 RDIMM built with DRAM chips of the same data rate. For generative AI inference, MRDIMM significantly increases the bandwidth between the CPU and main memory, accelerates the reading of large model weights and cache data, enables more efficient utilization of computing resources in generative AI inference, thereby improving inference throughput and reducing response latency.

MRDIMM offers multiple capacity options of 64GB, 96GB, 128GB, and 256GB per module, allowing a single node to scale up to terabyte-level memory resources. Greater capacity enables longer context windows, more concurrent sessions, and more complete historical memory without frequently triggering data swap or KV cache offloading, thereby avoiding the performance penalty caused by recomputation. For memory-intensive scenarios such as RAG retrieval, Agent memory, and multi-turn conversations, the system remains consistently online, ensuring both business continuity and user experience.

MRDIMM is highly compatible with the CXL® (Compute Express Link®) disaggregated memory architecture, enabling the construction of a tiered memory system consisting of "high-bandwidth local memory + large-capacity expanded memory" within a server. MRDIMM provides low-latency, high-bandwidth local memory access for storing frequently read model weights, KV Cache, and intermediate activation data in generative AI inference, while CXL delivers large-capacity shared memory through memory expansion and pooling, used to host oversized model parameters or cold data. Through this combination, the system ensures high-speed access to hot data while overcoming single-node memory capacity limitations, effectively alleviating the memory wall problem in large model inference, thereby improving inference throughput, reducing latency, and enhancing overall resource utilization efficiency.
